This foundation supports artists ortheir relatives in financial hardship, during illness, old age, or involuntary unemployment. Priority is given to Basel citizens, regardless of their place of residence, as well as Swiss artists living in Basel. In exceptional cases, foreign artists who have been long-term residents of Basel may also be eligible for support.

Purpose: "The Foundation for Artists in Need supports local artists or their relatives in case of illness, old age, or involuntary unemployment. In the first instance, Basel citizens are to be considered, regardless of their place of residence; secondly, those who are Swiss citizens living in Basel, and exceptionally also foreign artists who have been long-time residents of Basel."
Exclusion criteria: Es können nur Gesuche von bildenden Künstler:innen angenommen werden, welche den oben genannten Bedingungen des Stiftungszwecks entsprechen und diese nachweisen können. Dem Gesuch, welches die Notlage darlegt, muss nebst einem CV und einem Kunst-Portfolio die Steuerveranlagung des Vorjahres beigelegt werden, um die allgemeine Vermögenssituation beurteilen zu können und auch Missbrauch zu verhindern. Bitte beachten Sie, dass der Stiftungszweck von Anfang an explizit auf bildende Künstler:innen in und aus Basel ausgerichtet war, so dass leider keine Anträge von Personen berücksichtigt werden können, die diese Voraussetzungen nicht nachweisen können.
Applications: Applications are accepted only from visual artists who meet the foundation’s stated purpose and can provide evidence thereof.
Please include the following documents with your application:
● Cover letter explaining the hardship (including the amount requested)
● CV
● Portfolio or website
● Previous year’s tax assessment, to allow the evaluation of your overall financial situation and to prevent misuse
● For applicants from abroad: a copy of your residence permit and a certificate of residence for Basel-Stadt (if no tax documents are available)
Please note that the foundation’s purpose has, from the outset, been expressly directed toward visual artists in and from Basel. Unfortunately, applications from persons who cannot demonstrate that they meet these criteria cannot be considered.
